Davy Liger -  FRANCE Parlour Guitar

I used to play classical guitar but wanted to learn some bluesy skills, so I have bought a parlor guitar “Ebony and maple” from Stephen Davis a few months ago. I have to say she is amazing.

The woods are top quality with top solid spruce, ebony fingerboard, and maple. Very well built, lovely looking, very playable and a surprisingly “big” sound for such a little body! Especially good for the blues. And the most important: this guitar is absolutely unique, which is rare and definitely impossible to find in this price range – it was a very worthy buy and I am very pleased with this instrument.

Review: The English Guitar Company (Dogleg Steve's Cigar Box Guitars)

I am an amateur guitar player who had thought about getting a more sophisticated CBG after using a hand made fretless instrument. I explored any number of internet sites, which offered to hand-make a CBG, provide a new guitar or sell me a used instrument. As part of this journey I came across the English Guitar Company and liked what could see and hear on the company website. I also liked the price, which compared to others in the field, was quite reasonable. I contacted Steve to consider what instruments he had available. He provided a prompt reply, loads of information and details about the range of guitars I might like. I therefore, decided to take the plunge and order a guitar. Steve was then kind enough to let me have videos to compare and contrast what he had on offer and I was able to not only consider what they looked like, but the sound and playing action. He also kelp me up-to-date with the construction as well as sending a video of the pre-dispatch instrument. It arrived on time, packed to perfection and I was not disappointed. It plays like a dream and the sound and tone is exactly what I wanted. I am now using a slide and fingerpicking and gradually making inroads into what will no doubt become an obsessive hobby.

Spent the last few days bonding with my new best friend, courtesy of Dogleg Steve , Steve was great to deal with. Prior to the build we discussed an “assymetrical” neck carve, to help my arthritic thumb, the end result is an absolute joy to play and I couldn’t be happier, difficult to photograph the end result, but I’ve used a profile gauge to give an idea. Thanks again Steve for all your hard work.

I recently bought a 3 String Andalusian Bull box guitar from Dogleg Steve The English Guitar Company.

I consider myself to be fairly experienced /knowledgeable guitarist over 50 years rocking n rolling. Although I knew what I wanted I was more than happy to take Steve’s advice and guidance which is extensive.

Steve has created a bespoke guitar based on his signature ‘ Andalusian Bull Box ‘ range. Being part of the creation of this wonderful instrument was amazing Steve was on the money every-time suggesting alternatives eventually after a fairly short time creating the final instrument under two weeks from scratch - pictures and progress daily which was refreshing - communication, builds trust  is everything when building a client relationship.

Steve went the extra yard trying to establish the right string gauges  / tunings to give me the variation I requested and we got there in the end !! The guitar arrived on time and very well packed !!! 

I would highly recommend whatever level of guitarist novice to pro , new to the Cigar Box world - contact Steve The English Guitar company. 

Apart from all of the above guitar itself excellent craftsmanship  - Steve is an accomplished musician himself you can tell by the love of his guitar making luthier skills.

I bought a cbg from this website. Hand made. Steve was very helpful through out the process and Made sure everything was right with the specifications. Absolutley over the moon with this cbg. He even added a few extras which he didn’t have to which was very kind of him at no extra cost. Communication from start to finish was exceptional. A lot of attention to detail highly recommend Steve. He is very unique how he builds his cbg’s specially if you like a decent hand made neck and headstock. He understands and knows as he plays himself. The best in the uk hands down.
